Actions Lead to Consequences

Updated: Mar 12, 2021

There was a lot of good that came out of the MeToo movement. The most prevalent, of course, is the arrest of Harvey Weinstein. But, as with all movements designed to make things better and call out injustices that should have been righted years or even decades ago, it got co-opted and morphed into something else entirely by the mainstream. It has now become what is known, simply, as “cancel culture.”

And to be blunt, I hate that term. It reminds me of what George Carlin described as soft language. He was right when he said that smug, greedy, well-fed white people invented a language to conceal their sins. And when they get called out on their crap, they’ve decided to call it “cancel culture.”

In my opinion, there is no cancel culture. There is only self-righteous pricks getting called out on their dumb shit. And they’ve been able to take a lot of us along for the ride. I can’t believe this needs to be said, but as it seems society needs a refresher course, here a few things you shouldn’t do:

  1. Don’t sexually abuse ANYONE EVER.

  2. Do not cause physical harm toward anyone.

  3. Don’t take your dick out to jerk off in front of people who don’t want to see it.

  4. Don’t say that school shootings were fake when they clearly weren’t.

  5. Don’t say that a worldwide pandemic is a hoax when there are 2.36 million dead from it.

  6. Don’t piss off your boss at a job (no matter how high or low profile it is) after they have warned you multiple times to stop doing something you know you shouldn’t do.

  7. Don’t side with insurrectionists, white supremacists, or support insane conspiracy theories.

And if you do go along with any of this sort of stuff, don’t be surprised when the hammer comes down. If you’re going to do dumb shit, don’t be surprised when you’re outed as a dumb ass.

An opinion that has existed for around the past half dozen years is this idea that comedians aren't allowed to be funny. The most recent comedian to speak out about this was Marlon Wayans, who said in
